Food doesn’t get much better than the humble dumpling: meat or vegetables (or both) packed into a dough wrapper, folded up in one of many ways, and cooked, often by steaming or pan-frying. Dipped in a little soy sauce or black vinegar (or drizzled with chile oil), dumplings can approach the divine.
Chinatown is arguably Boston’s best neighborhood for food, and while it’s a great jumping-off point for dumplings, it isn’t the only show in town. Somerville, Cambridge, and other nearby cities and towns also have some serious spots for everyone’s favorite little dough packages.
Here’s where to find some of the best dumplings — soup-filled or otherwise — in and around Boston.
Health experts consider dining out to be a high-risk activity for the unvaccinated; it may pose a risk for the vaccinated, especially in areas with substantial COVID transmission. Note that as of January 15, 2022, restaurants in the city of Boston will be required to check for proof of vaccination for customers dining indoors. (Brookline and Salem have similar policies.)
