Planning Board to discuss floodplain bylaw

WHATELY — The Planning Board is hosting a virtual forum Monday night at 6 p.m. to inform residents about a floodplain bylaw that will be put up to a vote at Annual Town Meeting on May 24.

The proposed bylaw would establish a Floodplain Overlay District and would subject changes to the land in that district to a new review process. The bylaw is being proposed due to the effects of climate change and the increased flooding risks.

South County EMS appoints three paramedics

DEERFIELD — The Selectboard approved the appointments of three paramedics to South County EMS last week on Chief Zachary Smith’s request.

Erik Drumgool, Zachary Battistoni and Lauri McComb, who were all existing per-diem employees with the EMS company, were appointed as full-time paramedics. Smith said he needed to replace some EMTs who had left for a variety of reasons.

Selectboard OKs job descriptions

DEERFIELD — Following the departure of the town’s treasurer/collector/town clerk, the Selectboard approved splitting the role into two: one as treasurer/collector and the other, town clerk.

The two positions, however, cannot be created until a Town Meeting vote approves them, followed by approval from the Legislature.

The Selectboard also approved the job description of a town nurse.

Senior Center outreach coordinator appointed

DEERFIELD — The Selectboard voted last week to approve Chris Goodreau as the South County Senior Center’s outreach coordinator.

Goodreau is a Greenfield resident who works as a freelance reporter — and has worked with the Greenfield Recorder and Daily Hampshire Gazette in the past. He is also a clerk at Atlas Farm.

Selectboard member Carolyn Shores Ness said “I think it’s wonderful he’s willing to do it.”
