First Parish Church

First Parish Church, 20 High Road, Newbury, worships on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. online and with the Rev. Raymond Henderson.

The food pantry is open Fridays from 2:30 to 5 p.m. for those in need and has moved to its permanent home in the new building at 20 High Road. To donate: Send check payable to First Parish Church of Newbury, 20 High Road, Newbury, MA 01951 and put “food pantry” in the memo.

Food donations are accepted Thursdays from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Needed are toilet paper, paper towels, diapers, baby wipes, razors, toothpaste, soap, rice, hearty soups, mayonnaise, canned goods, canned tuna, pasta, and cake and muffin mixes.

The church’s clothing shed is in the back parking lot for anyone wishing to donate clothing.

FRS Unitarian Universalist

First Religious Society, Unitarian Universalist, 26 Pleasant St., Newburyport, offers Sunday worship at 10 a.m. with livestreaming on the church’s YouTube channel.

On Aug. 21, worship will be in person at Atkinson Common, 388 High St., Newburyport. The service is titled “Dreams: Befriend the Gifts of Time.” The Rev. Rebecca Bryan will look at the relationship between time and dreams.

Vaccination is required to attend in person while those who are not are welcome to attend online. Masks are not required; socially distant seating is available in designated areas of the sanctuary.

Union Congregational

Union Congregational Church, 350 Main St., Point Shore, Amesbury, offers in-person and online worship on Sundays at 10 a.m. with Scott Chase, minister.

Old South Presbyterian

Old South Presbyterian Church, 29 Federal St., Newburyport, offers a Sunday service at 10 a.m. in person and via livestream at https://bit.ly/OldSouthYT.

On Aug. 21, the church continues its sermon series, “Cultivating the Heart of a Disciple,” with the sermon “Giving It Our All” by the Rev. Scott DeBlock. 

The church hosts its Festival of Fun on Sunday, Sept. 18. At 11:15 a.m. after worship, there will be outdoor games, face painting, a clown, a collection of “bubble items” for local missions and food, and lots more. Friends and neighbors are invited.

The Sunday Sandwiches ministry will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the School Street entrance.

The women’s fellowship will raffle four baskets (garden, breakfast, cat and dog) after the service Sunday. Tickets are $3 each or two for $5. Donations of shaving cream for First Parish Church’s food pantry will be accepted after the service Sunday.

East Parish United Methodist

East Parish United Methodist Church, 8 Lafayette Road, Salisbury, hosts a Sunday worship service at 10 a.m.

On Aug. 21, the Rev. Milka Gonzalez explores the “Parable of the Prodigal Son.” 

The communion offering for August is Progresso or other hearty soups, canned beans and disposable underwear. The items are delivered to The Pettengill House during the first week of September.

Main Street Congregational

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 7 Harris St., Newburyport, led by the Rev. Costin Popescu, offers summer hours with Orthros at 8:30 a.m. followed by Divine Liturgy at 9:30 a.m. in person and livestreaming.

The St. Basil’s Kitchen community lunch is offered at the church on Monday from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The lunch program is a takeout service and will not be offered Sept. 5.

People’s United Methodist Church

The Angel Gabriel Quilters meet Tuesdays at 11:30 a.m. for quilting and knitting.

St. Paul’s Episcopal

St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 166 High St., Newburyport, offers a Sunday service of Holy Eucharist at 9 a.m.

Masks required for those who are not vaccinated. Formation hour at the church is from 10:15 to 11 a.m. with the opportunity for adults and children to go deeper in the faith, wrestle with questions and doubts, and grow together as a community.

A noon service of Holy Eucharist resumes Wednesday, Aug. 24, in St. Anna’s Chapel. Formation hour resumes Sunday, Aug. 28.

Seventh-day Adventist

Seventh-day Adventist Church, 171 Main St, Amesbury, offers two Sabbath meetings at the church Saturday.

Vaccination and masks are requested. Sabbath School for adults is in person only and begins at 9:30 a.m. to study God’s ways of building and developing character in his children. No prior study is necessary.

The worship service begins at 11 a.m. with prayer, praise, scripture and preaching. Children’s Sabbath School is still on hold.

Byfield Parish Church, 132 Jackman St., Georgetown, led by the Rev. Brent Fugate, will stream the Sunday worship service on YouTube and Facebook Live.

Unity on the River

Unity on the River is holding in-person services each Sunday at 10 a.m. at Congregation Ahavas Achim synagogue, 53½ Washington St., Newburyport.
