The author who penned Aaron Caron’s controversial memoir has hit back at criticism from Hilary Duff and the late singer’s management, which saw the tome branded a ‘heartless money grab.’

Andy Symonds, who co-wrote ‘Aaron Carter: An Incomplete Story of an Incomplete Life’ – which boasted claims the singer lost his virginity to Hilary Duff when he was aged 12 and she was ‘maybe 13’ – said Aaron had ‘a right’ to tell his own troubled story.

Speaking exclusively to DailyMail.com, Symonds said: ‘Aaron Carter hired me to help him tell the world his story. That story, while tragically cut short, was filled with good and bad.

‘His life was far from pretty, and understandably certain people in the public eye don’t want some of the stories Aaron tells in his book to come to light.

‘That doesn’t make them any less true or newsworthy. Aaron had a right—as we all do—to tell his story. As a journalist, I am honored that he chose me to help him do that.

‘In addition to being cathartic for him, Aaron hoped this book would help others struggling with addiction and mental illness. I hope and believe it will do that.’

Aaron was found dead in a bathtub at his Lancaster, California home on Saturday, November 5. He was 34.

The unfinished memoir, slated for release on November 15, was written with Aaron over the course of three years, and an excerpt obtained by the New York Post read: ‘Hilary and I lost our virginity to each other at a hotel… in LA.

‘I think it was her birthday, maybe her 13th [September 28 2000], but I don’t remember. Her friends walked in, and we just yelled at them to get out.’

Singer Aaron and actress Hilary, now 35, met as fellow teen idols in 2000 and dated on-off until 2003.

Hilary exclusively told DailyMail.com: ‘It’s really sad that within a week of Aaron’s death, there’s a publisher that seems to be recklessly pushing a book out to capitalize on this tragedy without taking appropriate time or care to fact check the validity of his work

‘To water down Aaron’s life story to what seems to be unverified click-bait for profit is disgusting. In no way do I condone shedding any light on what is so obviously an uninformed, heartless, money grab.

The late star’s management team later also blasted the ‘obscenely disrespectful’ and ‘unauthorized’ release of the late star’s unfinished memoir, as well as new music, less than a week after his death.

‘In the few short days following our dear friend’s passing we have been trying to grieve and process while simultaneously having to deal with obscenely disrespectful and unauthorized releases including an album, a single and now it seems a book,’ read a statement sent out by Taylor Helgeson of Big Umbrella Management to Page Six on Thursday.

In it, Aaron’s management team also made a point of thanking Carter’s ex-girlfriend Hilary Duff for her words.

‘We as Aaron’s management would like to thank Hilary Duff for her statement regarding the book that is set to be released,’ they stated.

A day after his death, Aaron’s album Blacklisted was released by producers Morgan Matthews and John Wyatt Johnson.

It was meant to be released on December 7, which would have been the singer’s 35th birthday.

Thursday’s statement continued: ‘This is a time for mourning and reflection not heartless money grabs and attention seeking.

‘We would ask the parties responsible to remove the aforementioned content and that no further content be released without approval from his family, friends, and associates.’

Aaron previously said he started dating Hilary on his 13th birthday (December 7 2000), adding: ‘I was dating her for like a year-and-a-half, then I just got a little bored so I went and I started getting to know Lindsay [Lohan], dating Lindsay

Aaron and Hilary famously shared a kiss under the mistletoe on her show Lizzie McGuire in 2001.

Lindsay, Aaron, and Hilary were then famously embroiled in an alleged love triangle during the early 2000s.

A synopsis for the book reads: ‘Aaron Carter was working on a book about his life before his death. He never had a chance to finish it. This is what was completed.

‘All Aaron Carter knew was fame. He released his first album at the age of nine and was a 3x platinum artist selling out stadiums before reaching his teenage years.

‘Close friend and mentor Michael Jackson confided in him that he believed Aaron was the King of Pop’s heir apparent. His brother was in the biggest boy band in the world. Aaron Carter’s destiny was of stardom; and unfortunately, tragedy, with his life ending on Nov. 5, 2022.

‘Author Andy Symonds (My Father’s Son, The Man in the Arena, Reality Check) spent three years off and on interviewing Aaron for this book. In it, Aaron tells about the night he spent at Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch, awakening in the middle of the night to find Michael crouched at the end of his bed, sleepwalking.

‘He talks about his relationship with his family, the money they stole from him, and what it was like growing up in the shadow of Nick and the Backstreet Boys.

‘He details performing with Michael Jackson at Madison Square Garden on Sept. 10, 2001, and being on his way to the airport to board Michael’s private jet when he watched the first plane hit the World Trade Center.

‘Aaron is honest, funny, irreverent and self-aware with amazing recall about the stories that shaped a childhood star into a troubled, but talented adult.

‘This book is not completed, but now it never will be. In its final version as published, notes are left in the manuscript by Aaron’s writer and publisher so the reader can see the focus and direction where the book were going.

‘Aaron was an open book during the process–it’s a tragic irony that his autobiography will never include all his stories, thoughts, hopes and dreams as he intended.’

It comes after Hilary shared a tribute to her ex-boyfriend Aaron on Instagram following his death at the age of 34 on November 5.

Paying tribute to her ex-boyfriend, Hilary said in a gushing tribute: ‘For Aaron — I’m deeply sorry that life was so hard for you and that you had to struggle in-front of the whole world.

‘You had a charm that was absolutely effervescent … boy did my teenage self love you deeply. Sending love to your family at this time. Rest easy ♥️.’

Aaron rose to fame as a child star, first as a singer and later as an actor in film and television shows like Lizzie McGuire and 7th Heaven.

The brother of famed pop icon and Backstreet Boys singer Nick Carter was ‘found dead in his bathtub’ at his home in Lancaster, California.

On Saturday, law enforcement said they received a 911 call at 11am, saying ‘a male had drowned in the tub’.

They had been contacted by a house sitter, who had found his body, the sheriff’s department told DailyMail.com.

Homicide detectives said there is no information or evidence of foul play at this time.

After emergency services had been spotted outside Aaron’s Lancaster home, a coroner was seen removing Carter’s body.

Lindsay Lohan is also keeping Aaron’s family in her prayers following his heartbreaking death at age 34.

Lindsay, 36, was just a teenager when she famously dated Carter from 2002 to 2003.

‘So many (memories) from when I was so young, just that era of my life … and my prayers go out to his family and may he rest in peace and God bless,’ she told Access Hollywood.

Carter, who opened for the Backstreet Boys on a 1997 tour, shot to fame in the 90s releasing four studio albums, starting with his self-titled debut album in 1997 when he was only 9 years old.

In 2019, Aaron revealed on ‘The Doctors’ that he was diagnosed with ‘multiple personality disorder, schizophrenia, acute anxiety and manic depression,’ according to CNN.

Aaron publicly feuded with many, including his brother Nick, whom he accused of trying to put him under a conservatorship, similar to the one placed on Britney Spears.

Aaron has two sisters, one of which is his twin, Angel and Leslie, who passed away in 2012 at the age of 25 from a drug overdose.

The singer grew up in the shadow of Nick’s world-conquering boy band but released his first record in 1997 at the age of just nine, on the same label that led his brother to stardom, Jive.

His second album, ‘Aaron’s Party (Come Get It),’ went triple platinum upon it’s 2000 release and spawned multiple charting singles, including a video for ‘That’s How I Beat Shaq’ in which the singer went 1-on-1 with NBA great Shaquille O’Neal.

However, after 2001’s ‘Oh Aaron’ sold over a million copies in the US alone, the singer failed to have the staying power that his brother’s group did.

He released one more album of original songs in 2002 before going 16 years without making any new music.

Like many young music stars, Carter also pursued some acting, appearing in several Disney Channel sitcoms.

He would go on to make a few appearances in motion pictures, including Fat Albert and Ella Enchanted, but his film career would sputter out, much like his singing career.

He also appeared on a reality show with his brother and three other siblings, E!’s House of Carters, in 2006.

Aaron reappeared in the public eye in 2009, finishing in fifth place on the ninth season of Dancing with the Stars.

By 2011, the former child star had ended up in rehab at the Betty Ford Center in California. At the end of the year, he returned to the stage, even appearing in an off-Broadway musical.

According to Fox News, Aaron was arrested in Texas in 2008 for speeding and was found to have marijuana in his vehicle.

He was again arrested for driving under the influence in 2017 and reckless driving in 2021.

He also had a turbulent romantic life. He was engaged to Playboy model Keri Anne Peniche before breaking it off.

In 2019, he was granted a restraining order against then-girlfriend Lina Valentina, who allegedly threatened to stab him.

Melanie Martin, his girlfriend at the time of his death, was arrested after an alleged domestic violence incident in which Carter was purported to be the victim.

In the late 2010s, Aaron attempted a comeback in several different avenues.

He released a record in 2018 and started releasing rap music under the moniker Kid Carter.

In 2020, Aaron began posting on the content site OnlyFans, charging up to $100 and by 2021, he was facing off with the likes of Lamar Odom in a celebrity boxing match. He lost on a second round knockout.

Later that year, he lost out on a role in the Las Vegas show Naked Boys Singing because he’d refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine.

His problems with family continued that year, saying that Nick had tried to put him under a conservatorship, according to TMZ.

Aaron had split from fiancée Martin just one week after they welcomed their first child together.
