Tyngsboro High’s April Students of the Month

TYNGSBORO — Tyngsboro High School has announced its Students of the Month for April.

Luke McHugh, son of Fred and Michelle McHugh, received the Outstanding Achievement in Business Award in 2021. Luke has been involved in athletics throughout his career at Tyngsboro High School, he has been a member of the football team from eighth grade through senior year, and this past season received the 12th Man Award. He has also been a four-year member of the varsity lacrosse team where he was a Mid-Wach All-Star in 2022 and was named captain in the 2023 season. Luke was also a four-year member of the wrestling team, where he was named captain in 2023, and a one-year member of the soccer team in 2020. This year, he was also a member of Senior Sidekicks.

Luke has participated in community service events such as the Tyngsboro Block Party and the House of Hope with his church. Luke’s favorite subjects are history and English. His future goals include graduating with a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree in whatever career path he chooses and also just enjoying life.

Jenna Tumpney, daughter of Shane and Kristi Tumpney, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. She also received the Principal’s Award for the last three consecutive years. Jenna has been a four-year member of the varsity softball team and in 2021 the team won the state championship. She has participated in over 60 hours of community service through the National Honor Society. Her favorite subject is writing and her future goals include going to school to become a pilot and fly for an airline one day.

Samantha Puma, daughter of Michael and Dustine Puma, is a two-year member of the National Honor Society. She has also received the Outstanding Achievement in Computer Science Award. Samantha has been a four-year member of the Student Council and head of makeup and hair for the theater program. She is a two-year member of the theater program and a one-year member of the BioBuilder club. Samantha has also been a four-year member of the golf team and the softball team, and was a two-year member of the basketball team. She was named golf captain her senior year and received the Coaches Award and Academic Excellence Award. She also received Most Improved in basketball in her senior year, along with an Academic Excellence Award for softball in her junior year.

Samantha has participated in an abundance of community service including events such as The Tyngsboro Block Party, working the snack shack at athletic events, Chelmsford and Tyngsboro softball clinics, Special Olympics, The Festival of Trees, Tyngsboro No Waste Event, school clean-up, and Tyngsboro football games. Overall, Samantha has over 100 hours of community service. Samantha’s favorite subjects are math and anatomy, and her future goals consist of becoming a nurse and traveling the world to help those in need.

Sydney Hannes, daughter of Ward and Christine Hannes, has been a two-year member of the field hockey team as well as a three-year member of the lacrosse team. In her senior year, she was named captain of the varsity lacrosse team. Sydney’s hobbies include playing lacrosse, running and working with children. Her favorite subjects are math and anatomy, and her future goals consist of having great lacrosse seasons at Siena College, where she will play Division 1 lacrosse next year, and furthering her academics in health science. Sydney is studying health sciences and hopes to be a radiologist in the future.
