Somerville’s Dragon Pizza owner and Barstool’s Dave Portnoy trade ‘F’ bombs, flip each other off in Davis Square
People all over the internet have been introduced to Somerville’s Dragon Pizza after its owner ripped into Barstool’s Dave Portnoy, and the pair exchanged “F” bombs and flipped each other off in a viral video.
The fiery interaction between the owner of Dragon Pizza in Davis Square and Portnoy has led to a spike of Yelp comments for Dragon Pizza — and an “Unusual Activity Alert” notice on the eatery’s Yelp page.
During one of Portnoy’s recent pizza reviews in Davis Square, Dragon Pizza owner Charlie Redd stepped outside his establishment and approached Portnoy on the Elm Street sidewalk.
“Dave, enjoy your pizza as any customer, but I don’t appreciate what you do, coming in and judging a business with one bite,” Redd told Portnoy.
“Well, we do more,” Portnoy responded.
“I hope you enjoy your pizza, but I don’t appreciate what you do to small businesses,” Redd said before walking back into Dragon Pizza.
“I’ve actually helped so many small businesses,” Portnoy said, adding that he raised $50 million for small businesses.
Then a minute later, Redd returns to the sidewalk, telling Portnoy to leave.
“Move on. Don’t stand in front of my business,” the owner said.
Portnoy quickly responded, “Let me be clear: (Expletive) you.”
“Let me be clear: Get the (expletive) out in front of my business,” Redd said back to Portnoy.
They then continued to trade a bunch of expletives and flip each other off.
(Warning for the video: It’s full of expletives.)
Dragon Pizza in an Instagram post wrote, “F@$K you and the Stool you came in on, Dave Douchebag. Your show sucks. You suck, and you truly are the classless tool I thought you are.”
One of the photos in the Instagram post shows the owner flipping off Portnoy.
After the video went up online Thursday night, Dragon Pizza’s Yelp page was flooded with comments. There was an “Unusual Activity Alert” notice on the page.
“This business recently received increased public attention, which often means people come to this page to post their views on the news,” the notice reads.
“While we don’t take a stand one way or the other when it comes to this incident, we’ve temporarily disabled the posting of content to this page as we work to investigate whether the content you see here reflects actual consumer experiences rather than the recent events,” the page reads.
Portnoy started off the pizza review before chaos erupted by saying Dragon Pizza had 50 reviews on the One Bite app, and had received an average score of 8 out of 10.
“It’s a floppy mess,” Portnoy said as he took a bite. “Strong parmesan… strong parmesan. This is an acquired taste. Like, if you get this, know you’re going to get hit with a left, right in the face with parmesan.
“I’m not the biggest parm guy,” he added. “Wow. I just don’t love parm.”
Portnoy gave the slice a score of 6.4, well below the One Bite average.
