Report: Warriors’ Draymond Green suspended 5 games

The Warriors were delivered a blow Wednesday when they learned that, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Draymond Green was issued a five-game suspension by the NBA.

Green was at the center of a dispute between Golden State and the Minnesota Timberwolves that was unfolding with Jaden McDaniels and Klay Thompson. Rudy Gobert was in the middle when he felt an arm wrap around him that belonged to Green — who put Gobert in a chokehold in an attempt to get him off his Warriors teammate.

Thompson, McDaniels and Green were ejected from the game. Wojnarowski reported that Thompson, McDaniels and Gobert are being fined $25,000 each for their role in the scuffle.

Warriors coach Steve Kerr defended Green after Golden State’s 104-101 loss, telling reporters Gobert had his hands on Thompson’s neck, which prompted Green to go after Gobert.

“What do you want me to say? He’s backing his guy, but I think he knows,” Gobert told The Athletic. “Deep inside, he (doesn’t) want to say it but his guy is a clown.”

This isn’t the first time Green has gotten physical with players. Just last year, video leaked of an altercation between him and then-teammate Jordan Poole at practice that resulted in Green punching Poole — an incident he later justified.

“I don’t just hit people,” Green said during a July 2023 appearance on “The Pat Bev Podcast With Rone.” “Dialogue happens over the course of time, and you usually ain’t just triggered by something that fast to that degree. This is a team. Ain’t nobody on my team triggering me in an instant. We know stuff that you don’t say amongst men. We know things that you have to stand on.”

Green will miss the Warriors’ In-Season Tournament game next Friday against the San Antonio Spurs. He’ll be eligible to return Nov. 28 against the Sacramento Kings.
