Twenty-two additional women and girls have come forward with allegations of abuse against a retired Massachusetts pediatrician who already faces more than a dozen charges for the alleged sexual abuse of two victims during their annual checkups over a period of more than a decade, prosecutors revealed.Dr. Richard Kauff, 68, of Norwell, was in court Monday where he pleaded not guilty to 16 charges associated with the dates of physical exams that occurred between 1991 and 2004. Charges include rape of a child with force and indecent assault and battery of a victim under age 14.The original two accusers first met each other through social media, after one of them posted an anonymous question on a social media group asking if vaginal penetration was a routine part of a pediatric exam. Through the post, the two victims connected and discovered they had the same doctor. They met with investigators soon after.Kauff was formerly associated with South Shore Health, the group confirmed. He has already given up his medical license. In court on Monday, less than two weeks after the charges were first announced, prosecutors said that 22 additional women and girls have come forward as the investigation continues. “We anticipate dozens of more similar-type charges,” a prosecutor said in court. (Video below)”Obviously, when you go from two to a higher number, to 24 here on the day of the arraignment, I think what it shows is that there’s obviously been a breach of trust between a doctor-patient relationship,” District Attorney Tim Cruz said outside of court. Kauff was released on $50,000 bail. Conditions of his bail include surrendering his passport, he would not be allowed to leave the state and he would be prohibited from having unsupervised contact with children under the age of 16. Kauff and his wife declined to comment on the case. Kauff is expected back in court on Jan. 11.
