Over the offseason, Jayson Tatum made at least a few headlines when talking to a youth basketball camp. The All-NBA forward spoke about not taking a night off because fans paid money to come see him play, even if it’s a random night on the league calendar.

Notably, what was pulled from the clip was how Tatum talked about “just because we’re playing Charlotte on NBA League Pass on a Monday,” it wasn’t an excuse for him to take it easy. It’s a nice mindset from a star player who wants to perform well in front of a fan base he only travels to see twice a season.

But the Hornets were just randomly thrown into Tatum’s example. And the schedule makers gave Tatum exactly what he talked about: a Monday night game in Charlotte. Despite Tatum putting up 45 points, the Celtics lost 121-118 to the Hornets in overtime. At least one Hornets player poked fun at Tatum in Hornets forward P.J. Washington.

“Not bad for a Monday night on League Pass,” Washington said coming off the Spectrum Center court, per Hornets social media.

Funnily enough, the other time the Celtics play in Charlotte this season is also on a Monday night. That game isn’t until April 1, so close to the end of the regular season. But it’s a fun little wrinkle to the schedule considering the C’s only go there twice per season.
