Zach Braff, 48, clarifies his working relationship with ex Florence Pugh, 27, over a year after their breakup as she stars in his latest film: ‘We love each other and we’re friends’
They ended their relationship last year after three years of dating.
And now the 48-year-old former Scrubs star has weighed in on the state of his current relationship with the 27-year-old Don’t Worry Darling actress after their breakup in the summer of 2022.
While speaking in surprisingly strong language on Wednesday on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, Zach told the host that he and Florence still ‘love each other’ despite now only being ‘friends.’
He also confessed that the Little Women actress still is in regular contact with him, and she had even chatted with him earlier that morning.

The Scrubs star said that he and Florence still ‘love each other’ despite now only being ‘friends’ after their breakup in the summer of 2022
When asked about where he and Florence stood, Zach replied: ‘Well, we love each other. We love each other and we’re friends.’
She still seemed to have her ex’s best interests at heart, which extended to giving him some fashion help before a television appearance.
‘I was on the Today Show this morning, and she said she wanted to see pictures of what my outfit was to give approvals, so we love each other a lot,’ Braff continued.
He made it clear there weren’t any hard feelings between the two when he gushed about the Oscar nominee’s prodigious talents.
‘Listen, I think it’s pretty clear across the world that I’m not biased when I say that she is one of the finest actresses working today,’ he enthused.
‘I think anyone who gives watching A Good Person a chance will see that she’s just extraordinary, and I just feel so lucky that I got to have her be my leading lady.’
Before their relationship had run its course, Florence had signed on to play the lead in A Good Person, which Zach directed but did not star in.
The drama features Florence as Allison, an aspiring musician who is recently engaged.
But their future is destroyed after she crashes her car after a party, killing her future brother- and sister-in-law.
A year later, as Allison is in the throws of an addiction to pain killers and dealing with severe depression, she attends an AA meeting where she unexpectedly meets her former fiancé’s father Daniel (Morgan Freeman).
Through him, she meets the orphaned daughter of the couple she killed, but her attempts to make amends are threatened by the girl’s fury at her and Daniel’s own struggles with addiction.
The film received only mixed reviews and was a box office disappoint after earning only $2.68 million, according to Box Office Mojo.
He noted that Florence asked to see his outfit for a Today Show appearance the same day to give him fashion pointers

The film received mixed reviews and was a box-office disappointment, but received praise for Florence’s performance. Zach called her the ‘Meryl Streep’ of her generation and noted that she wrote and sang some songs for the movie
However, several critics saved their praise for Florence’s performance, even if they found the rest of the film maudlin or implausible.
Zach was among those who praised the star’s performance.
‘On set, you just look around, you know, we call it Video Village, where we have all the monitors and everyone’s sort of hiding from the cameras, and you would just look around and people would be tears streaming down their face and everyone’s jaw just opened,’ he said of watching her act on set.
‘I mean, it was just so raw, and people have seen Florence do lots of different types of work from action movies to period pieces, but this was a different turn for her,’ he continued. ‘This was like current day trauma and also being funny. I mean her ability to sort of switch between the two with such aplomb. I mean, I think she’s, you know, a young Meryl Streep.
‘I’m not the first to say that,’ he added.
Florence, who also sings on the side and had posted several acoustic song covers on YouTube before breaking out as an actress, got to show off her musical talents, which Zach revealed was an intentional part of crafting the film.
‘Well literally, I, you know, I wrote it for her. It’s a bespoke character for her, so I was writing to things that I knew that she could do and then that’s where I got the idea to make her a singer–songwriter because, you know, the world has clearly embraced and loves Florence,’ he explained.
‘When Florence‘s career first began, she didn’t know if she was gonna go the actor route or go the singer–songwriter route because she can do both,’ Braff continued. ‘Then her career started taking off as an actress, and that got put to a back burner.
‘I’m sure it will return, and she’ll release an album one day, but I said, “Oh, it’d be cool if you could, you in character or you know, as the character, write the lyrics and write a song,” and she wrote two that are in the movie and are very beautiful,’ he revealed.
Zach and Florence were first introduced while on the set of a short film he was making, but it wasn’t until April of 2019 that they were linked when they were spotted holding hands.
The couple were linked in the spring of 2019 but didn’t go official until December of that year. They filmed A Good Person in 2021 and broke up in the summer of 2022, but they still worked together to promote the film earlier this year; seen in February 2020
However, the couple stayed silent and didn’t confirm the relationship until December of that year.
A Good Person was filmed in 2021, when the couple were still together, and they were apparently together at least until April of 2022 when she wished him a happy 47th birthday.
Florence then confirmed in August of that year that they had split while speaking to Harper’s Bazaar.
During their relationship, the couple — and particularly Florence — experienced a torrent of abuse on social media due to their 21-year age gap, though the Little Drummer Girl actress defended her right to choose to be with Zach.
