HAVERHILL — The Essex County District Attorney’s Office has identified the victim of a drowning Sunday at Plug Pond.

The victim is Marco Antonio Cajilema Quijosaca, 18, of Haverhill, the DA’s Office announced Wednesday.

Police were notified Sunday at 1:30 p.m. of a possible drowning in Plug Pond – the city’s only public swimming area.

“It appears to be a tragic accident,” Police Chief Robert Pistone said at the time.

The Haverhill Police and Fire departments responded along with Trinity EMS, the city’s harbormaster, the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team and a dive team from Beverly.

Divers found the teen’s body at 3:07 p.m. in a more than 20-foot-deep section of the pond outside the roped-off public swimming area, Pistone said.

The DA’s Office investigated the incident along with Haverhill police and the state medical examiner’s office.
