Providence man arrested for DUI, illegal firearms possession
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WLNE) — A Providence man was arrested in New Bedford April 14 on DUI and firearms charges.
According to New Bedford police, Eliezer Melero, 27, was pulled over on Norwell Street at 3 a.m. due to erratic driving.
Officers immediately detected signs of intoxication and Melero refused repeated commands to show his driver’s license and to exit the vehicle.
There was a brief struggle as officers removed him from the vehicle, and at this time a firearm was discovered on the floor of the car.
The firearm that was recovered was a Glock 17 pistol with no serial number.
Molero was found to have a blood alcohol level of .16, twice the legal limit, and was charged with drunk driving, failure to submit to police, resisting arrest, and unlawful possession of a high-capacity firearm and ammunition while intoxicated and unlicensed.
