MGM Springfield celebrates 150th Kentucky Derby with viewing party

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The biggest race in horse racing, The Kentucky Derby, took place Saturday and celebrations even watch parties took place throughout the area.

The 150th Kentucky Derby was celebrated at MGM Springfield with a sold-out party of 250 guests decked out in their most festive and colorful outfits. This annual event has been a tradition since 2016 is not only a fun time to watch the biggest horse race of the year but also a fundraiser for Square One which provides family-friendly education and support services.

Every year it gets bigger and better. The dresses get brighter, the hats get bigger, the pastels are all flying,” said Kristine Allard, Vice President of Development at Square One. “It’s such a great party and it’s all to raise money for the children and families at Square One.”

And the Kentucky Derby Race was an exciting one this year, coming down to a photo finish with Mystik Dan edging out Sierra Leone by a hair to win the first leg of the triple crown.
