In a nonleague contest, Caroline Burtch buried five goals, and added one assist as Norwell (8-5) rolled to a 17-4 victory over Dover-Sherborn. … Avery Valicenti tallied 10 goals as Archbishop Williams had an 18-9 victory over Hull.
In a Patriot League contest, senior Grace Connor buried her 100th career goal, as Quincy rolled to a 14-4 victory over rival Pembroke.
Peyton Mathisen and Lilli Berquist each notched two goals while Sofia Grasso added another as South Shore Tech bested Southeastern, 5-3, in the Mayflower Conference.
Shannon Balfe and Brooke Kreckler netted four goals each while nine other players found the net for Whitman-Hanson as they defeated Plymouth South, 20-4, in the Patriot League.
In the Middlesex Conference, Charlize Collins scored six goals while Elisabeth Delorey added four as Burlington beat Winchester, 15-4.
In the South Coast Conference, Abby Bradley had seven goals and four assists, Cece Levrault had six goals and two assists, and Addie Taylor added two goals and two assists to lead Apponequet to a 15-14 win over Fairhaven.
VOLLEYBALL
Viet Tran had 13 kills and five digs, while Kenzel Lantano added 33 assists, three digs and two kills as Lynn Classical (11-4) blanked Lynn English 3-0 in the Greater Boston League.
Royce Roxas and Ridty Tauch each posted 10 kills for Chelmsford as part of a 3-0 Merrimack Valley Conference win over Haverhill.
In Tri-Valley League action, Yasiel Rodriguez (25 assists) connected with Ian Hoskins (14 kills) and Andrew Cabral (eight kills) to lead Dighton-Rehoboth (11-4) past Attleboro 3-0.
Four different players posted at least five kills off Carter Barbosa’s distribution (24 assists), extending New Bedford’s unbeaten season to 14-0 with a 3-0 nonleague win over Catholic Memorial. … Daryl Atem slammed down 20 kills for Central Catholic in a 3-1 win over Greater Lawrence. … James Rochberg stepped up for 29 kills and Brennan Loud added 11 kills, leading Cambridge to a 3-1 win against Methuen as Eric Su dished a season-high 43 assists.
Timmy Kearney dished 34 assists, mostly finding Ben Gottlieb (10 kills) as Lincoln-Sudbury (7-5) bested Boston Latin, 3-1, in Dual County League play.
BOYS LACROSSE
Finn Racki delivered five goals for St. Mary’s of Lynn to pace a 10-1 nonleague win over Lynn.
Senior Brett Anderson compiled two goals, six assists and one faceoff win to power Tyngsboro to a 16-4 Mid-Wach win over Lunenburg.
BASEBALL
Matt Burt pitched five scoreless innings for his third win of the season, while Brock Winslow led a balanced attack with two hits and an RBI as Bishop Stang (4-7) defeated Archbishop Williams 6-1 in the Catholic Central League.
MIAA LACROSSE
MIAA Statewide tournament director Dan Brothers laid out the postseason format for the upcoming state tournament at Wednesday’s MIAA Lacrosse Committee meeting.
The cutoff date for regular season play will be Memorial Day (May 27), followed by a day of what Brothers referred to as reconciliation, finalizing and correcting any recording mistakes. The seedings will be made official early Wednesday afternoon (May 29) and schools would be allowed to start preliminary and first round contests on May 30, provided athletic directors from both schools agreed to the quick turnover.
The hope is for the Round of 32 to be completed by June 3, the Round of 16 by June 6 and the quarterfinals by June 8. State semifinals are expected to be contested on June 10-11 with the state finals slated to go on Thursday-Saturday. Brothers said he would prefer not to play on Sunday, June 16 as it is Father’s Day and would rather limit Saturday finals (June 15) due to the fact that baseball, softball, tennis and rugby normally hold their championship games that day.
As for state final venues, Brothers said there were a few roadblocks as some colleges are out for the summer and no one will be on the campus, while others will be in the process of replacing their turf fields. He didn’t rule out a high school venue if it is the best possible site available to the committee.
