Dakin Society pets of the week: Kristoff the retriever, Pinky the mouse and more

Kristoff the athletic golden retriever, Francesco the kissy kitten, Pinky the goofy mouse: These are just a few of pets up for adoption that the Dakin Humane Society spotlighted as the “pets of the week.”

Kristoff, a three-year-old retriever, is described as “a sweet, loving, very energetic pup,” who may have been “a thoroughbred race horse in another life,” according to Dakin, a community-supported animal welfare group in Springfield. The energy-filled golden “is a real delight… as long as you don’t mind testing the limits of how much exercise you can give a dog in a day,” the non-profit organization noted.

“Kristoff will need more than a walk around the block… unless by that you meant jogging a half marathon,” Dakin said.

Francesco, a three-month-old domestic shorthair kitten, was also highlighted by Dakin this week. After coming to the organization as a stray, he went into foster care and is getting ready to make the next big move: adoption.

“He’s packing his little knapsack with kibble, toys and a note that says, ‘You’re gonna love me!’ and he’s ready to roll!,” Dakin said.

The kitten’s foster mom described him as “a sweet boy who, while uncertain about being picked up, purrs like a motor boat once he’s in your arms.” He is not a big fan of fish but will happily give kisses in exchange for cheese, the organization added.
